Spence-Chapin Services to Families and Children, Schools Unite Network, Robert R. Taylor Network @ MIT, All Purpose Lifeskills and Idealist.org Leverage Brainshark to Enhance Training and Support Wide Range of Communications Needs

WALTHAM, Mass. - August 26, 2009 - Brainshark, Inc., a leader in on-demand presentations, today announced the five latest grant recipients in its Non-Profit Program. The following organizations have received a free one-year Brainshark software license for their communications needs: Spence-Chapin Services to Families and Children of New York, N.Y.; the Schools Unite Network (SUN) of New York, N.Y.; the Robert R. Taylor Network (RRTN) @ MIT of Cambridge, Mass.; All Purpose Lifeskills of Davie, Fla.; and Idealist.org of New York, N.Y.

Through its Non-Profit Program, Brainshark provides technology grants on a quarterly basis, enabling non-profit organizations to communicate using Brainshark's online, multimedia presentations - interactive content that includes audio, as well as videos, surveys and polls, attachments, tracking and reporting capabilities, and more. For non-profit organizations, incorporating Brainshark as a key part of their communications mix vastly increases the reach of their messages and contributes to significant savings by reducing collateral, travel and Web conferencing costs.

The latest grant recipients plan to use Brainshark as follows:

  • Spence-Chapin Services to Families and Children: Spence-Chapin, which has been offering quality adoption services for over 100 years, is currently posting Brainshark presentations to attract and inform potential adoptive parents, driving particular awareness for its international adoption programs (see China program presentation here: http://www.brainshark.com/spence-chapin/China) and its African-American program (see presentation here: http://www.brainshark.com/spence-chapin/africanamerican). A presentation for ASAP, its adoption program for babies with special needs, is now in development.

The organization also has plans to leverage Brainshark on-demand presentations to communicate with potential donors for its humanitarian aid programs, which offer support and services to children in orphanages. Spence-Chapin will also use Brainshark to conduct outreach and advocacy to hospitals, social services agencies and family planning providers, describing its adoptive services in-depth without traveling to do so. In addition, Spence-Chapin is taking advantage of Brainshark's tracking capabilities to analyze viewer activity and strengthen content, and has plans to leverage Brainshark's integration with Salesforce.com, which enables organizations to track the results of their communications within Salesforce.com.
  • The Schools Unite Network: "SUN," administered by Police Liaison Group, is a unique and innovative Internet-based information exchange in New York City developed to aid in the reduction of juvenile crime. SUN works to prevent and address youth-related crime and facilitate information sharing among the New York City Police Department (NYPD), staff across 80+ schools and parents in Manhattan. SUN is in the process of developing presentations through Brainshark for viewing by the NYPD, school administrators, staff, parents and community members. SUN also plans to take advantage of Brainshark's integration with Salesforce.com.
  • The Robert R. Taylor Network @ MIT: Named after the first black graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, RRTN aims to connect black youth and professionals to a cultural legacy of achievement in architecture, science and technology to create cultural and economic impact. The network has already created a Brainshark on its history and mission, available for viewing on its Web site at http://www.rrtn.org/en/about-us-2. RRTN also plans to use Brainshark to support its programs in leadership, archival and original research, education, and technology, and to conduct outreach to target constituents, educational partners, member subscribers and other stakeholders.
  • All Purpose Lifeskills: All Purpose Lifeskills helps domestic violence survivors, foster youth, the homeless, low-income families and youth at risk acquire financial literary and life skills. The organization plans to use Brainshark to reduce the costs of training volunteers, business presenters and board members. In addition, the group will use Brainshark to expand the scope of fundraising efforts and to market itself and its events to a wider audience. The following Brainshark presentation is a "thank-you" message for All Purpose Lifeskills' volunteers, business presenters and sponsors. The presentation was created by foster youth they worked with at Children's Harbor, a collaborative organization that provides therapeutic services to children and families in crisis, a safe and nurturing environment for children in foster care, and advocacy within the child welfare system. Please see http://www.brainshark.com/allpurposelifeskills/vu?pi=795891373.
  • Idealist.org: Idealist.org members and supporters work to find practical solutions to social and environmental problems, serving more than 80,000 registered organizations from more than 180 different countries. The organization plans to use Brainshark to conduct monthly training programs and new hire on-boarding. Idealist.org is also preparing Brainshark presentations to help site visitors navigate its Web site and take advantage of services offered. In addition, Idealist.org is also leveraging Brainshark's integration with Salesforce.com.

"Non-profits have been hit especially hard by today's economic climate, and with our technology grant program, we enable them to focus their budgets on other priorities," said Brainshark CEO Joe Gustafson. "Our most recent recipients are already starting to use Brainshark in outstanding ways, and we look forward to helping them develop a compelling, cost-effective and far-reaching communication strategy."

In addition to awarding grants, the Brainshark Non-Profit Program also provides the Standard Edition of the Brainshark platform at a 40% discount for eligible non-profits. These include registered 501(c)(3) organizations (or their equivalent outside the U.S.). They do not include organizations providing patient care, health-related services or financial services.  Sales and Marketing Consulting Leader Uses Brainshark Presentations to Boost Webcast Views by 256% and Improve Event Response Rates by 71%

WALTHAM, Mass. - August 5, 2009 - Brainshark, Inc., a leader in on-demand presentations, today announced that marketing and sales consulting leader Corporate Visions, Inc., has documented significant improvements in its marketing, sales and training products and communications by replacing traditional live activities with on-demand Brainshark delivery. Specific improvements include webcast reach (256% increase in viewership through Brainshark), response rates on invitations to events (71% boost when using Brainshark vs. sales cold-calling) and enhanced sales training (86% of Corporate Visions customers rank Brainshark on-demand training as better than live/in-person sessions). Use of Brainshark has positively impacted Corporate Visions in all key facets, including pipeline growth, sales effectiveness and client satisfaction.

Prior to using Brainshark, Corporate Visions found that on average, only 27% of its webcast registrants actually attended the live events. By replacing these events with "instant webcasts" - in the form of pre-recorded Brainshark presentations - Corporate Visions has seen participation skyrocket to 96%, with interested parties able to view the Brainshark-powered webcasts immediately after registration. Brainshark's tracking and reporting capabilities also provide detailed information on viewing activity, helping Corporate Visions prioritize follow-up.

"By offering our webcasts as Brainshark presentations, we've been able to capture our prospects' interest when it's hottest - right when they decide to sign up for an event - which means they are more likely to look at that webcast because the reason they signed up for it is still fresh," said Tim Riesterer, CMO and SVP, strategic consulting, Corporate Visions.

Brainshark-powered event promotions have also transformed the way Corporate Visions generates attendance for its "Executive Insights" events, which introduce techniques for improving differentiation in companies' sales message creation and delivery. Corporate Visions has found that the use of a brief, quick-hitting e-mail from a sales person with a link to a three-minute preview of an executive event has improved response rates by 71%, compared to sales reps leaving voicemails or sending e-mail invitations.

"Our sales people tell me that on-demand presentations are the best sales tool marketing has ever created because they are seeing prospects open Brainsharks who never returned phone calls or replied to e-mails," Riesterer continued.  "These improvements in our webcast and event activity have contributed to a significant increase in marketing's contribution to the sales pipeline."

Corporate Visions also recently leveraged Brainshark to transform its traditional two-day classroom-driven sales skills training course into an on-demand offering called Power Messaging ® Virtual. In addition to supporting audio narration, Brainshark's platform enables Corporate Visions to incorporate attachments, videos, comprehension questions, interactive workbooks and more within the online virtual coaching. With companies cutting back on travel budgets and not wanting to take sales reps out of the field, these new online training courses provide effective - and cost-effective - instruction.  In fact, according to Riesterer, 86% of Corporate Visions clients who participate in the program rate it better than any classroom course they've taken.

An example Brainshark presentation used in the Power Messaging Virtual training modules can be viewed here: www.brainshark.com/cvi/PMV_salesDemo.

"With companies today seeking to reduce travel costs and time out of the field, and with employee time at a premium, Brainshark's online, on-demand presentations provide a high-impact, hassle-free and convenient way to communicate," said Brainshark CEO Joe Gustafson. "Corporate Visions exemplifies the impact that Brainshark can have across an organization, and the company's outstanding training modules and additional communications attest to the ‘stickiness' and efficacy of on-demand content."

To learn more about Corporate Visions' success with on-demand presentations, please see this Brainshark presentation created and narrated by Riesterer: www.brainshark.com/brainsharkinc/CorpV.

Center is Latest Grant Recipient in Brainshark Non-Profit Program

WALTHAM, Mass. - June 2, 2009 - Brainshark, Inc., a leader in on-demand presentations, today announced that the New England Center for the Performing Arts is the latest grant recipient in the Brainshark Non-Profit Program. With the grant, the center will leverage Brainshark to create high-impact, on-demand multimedia presentations to increase awareness and galvanize volunteers and prospective donors.

The New England Center for the Performing Arts, based in Franklin, Mass., offers extracurricular performing arts education and training for students of all ages, as well as performing arts production and presentation programming. Under the Brainshark Non-Profit Program, the center has received a one-year Brainshark software license, enabling it to use Brainshark's on-demand presentations, which transform static business content into visually compelling presentations that incorporate audio, as well as videos, surveys and polls, attachments and more.

Using Brainshark, the center plans to market its offerings to a broader demographic, as well as increase awareness of its current capital campaign - a $33 million fundraising effort - and effectively reach out to prospective donors. The campaign is raising money for a new, accessible arts education facility and mainstage theatre that will increase capacity and enable the center to impact thousands more lives. The new complex will also enable the center to expand its offerings to senior citizens and individuals with special needs, as well as provide scholarships to underserved youth in the region.

"Brainshark allows us to increase our reach to our donor base, train volunteers and strengthen relationships with all of our constituencies - and do it all in a measurable way so we know exactly how our messages are being received," said Alan Mercer, director of advancement for the New England Center for the Performing Arts. "No longer can we rely on traditional methods like print brochures or the telephone to reach people. Non-profit organizations realize the importance of utilizing social media tools and e-mail capture as critical components of a successful fundraising campaign. With innovative tools like Brainshark, we can share our story in more powerful, convenient and cost-effective ways."

In addition to driving results with the capital campaign, Brainshark will enable the New England Center for the Performing Arts to:

  • Foster relationships with donors, students and alumni
  • Promote new program offerings to students, families and alumni
  • Launch annual fundraising appeals cost-effectively
  • Train volunteers and provide them with Brainshark-delivered presentations to increase fundraising results

One of the center's Brainshark presentations, which introduces the project to new prospects, can be viewed at http://www.brainshark.com/brainsharkinc/prnecpa. Additional fundraising-specific presentations are underway.

"We were impressed with the New England Center for the Performing Arts' vision and well-thought-out plan for increasing the effectiveness of internal and external communications," said Joe Gustafson, CEO of Brainshark. "We are thrilled to award the center a license grant and to help its members achieve their goals using Brainshark."

Brainshark Survey Also Shows Reduction in Sales Meeting Frequency; Fine Dining & Bar Tabs Drying up  Drying up

WALTHAM, Mass. - March 3, 2009 - In-person sales meetings appear to be the latest casualty in organizational struggles to pare down expenses, according to survey results released today by Brainshark, Inc., a leader in on-demand presentations. Forty-four percent of companies surveyed plan to scale back on sales meeting spending in the year ahead, with 67% of "large" organizations (those with a sales force greater than 500 representatives) showing cuts on the docket.

The survey results, which include feedback from 390 sales, marketing and training executives across a variety of industries, also show that organizations plan to ditch some of these events entirely. Among organizations planning to reduce meeting spending, 41% say they will reduce the frequency of these meetings in ‘09. This news comes amidst a spate of highly publicized annual sales meeting cancellations, as organizations feel pressure to eliminate these often lavish and exotic gatherings - whose price tags can reach millions of dollars - while still seeking effective means for knowledge transfer.

Additional data from the survey includes:

  • Chew on this - Of those companies reducing sales meeting spending, 50% plan to do so by cutting back on food and beverage at their sales meetings in the coming year, as well as scaling back on entertainment.
  • Keeping it concise - In addition to reducing meeting frequency and the food and beverage tab, 25% of cost-cutting companies are trimming meeting length, and 11% are shaving off the number of attendees.
  • Small companies aren't immune - While large companies were hit hardest, smaller ones are still reining in sales meeting spending. Fifty-six percent of companies with 101-500 reps noted a decrease in '09 sales meeting spending, as did 50% of companies with 50-100 reps and 36% of companies with fewer than 50 reps.

"In these tough economic conditions, it's time for companies to get more creative and leverage technology to reduce costs and travel," said Brainshark CEO Joe Gustafson. "Organizations are increasingly moving their live interactions to an on-demand environment - taking advantage of multimedia presentations that can be viewed at the audience's convenience. Brainshark's technology allows employees to hear from their leaders virtually and at a fraction of the previous cost. It's imperative that a missed sales meeting not be viewed as a missed opportunity to communicate."

Economic challenges have caused many SMBs to look for ways to reduce travel, cut costs, and increase productivity. Brainshark offers a way for SMBs to effectively compete in a challenging market by more effectively applying limited resources and avoiding the crippling effects of the downturn.

Virtual Iron
Virtual Iron, a provider of cost-effective virtualization software to small and medium sized businesses, uses Brainshark to offer free training to their customers on virtualization best practices in the form of short multimedia presentations known as "Virtual Vignettes."

The Vignettes are ideal for reaching their target audience of busy IT professionals because they are available for viewing at any time with direct-from-the-expert instruction. Customers can watch the training at off-hours or during a system upgrade when they must be onsite, but don't need to be "hands on."

Because Brainshark makes it easy and cost-effective for Virtual Iron to provide the training at no cost to customers, the company can meet the needs of its SMB customers that have little or no budget to purchase vendor training, yet still need to learn how to implement technology effectively.

LeanLogistics
LeanLogistics, a leading provider of on-demand Transportation Management Solutions, uses Brainshark to increase productivity across many customer-facing areas of its business.

Brainshark allows LeanLogistics to more effectively leverage subject matter experts; recording presentations on popular topics once for many uses, thus freeing up valuable time and reserving 1-to-1 discussions for advanced conversations with qualified buyers.

With a relatively small sales force, individual productivity is critical and LeanLogistics' sales team uses Brainshark throughout the sales cycle. With the Brainshark Connector for Salesforce.com, reps working within Salesforce.com can select Brainshark-powered presentations from a library of topics, send them to prospects, easily see who has viewed the presentations, and focus follow up efforts on the most interested prospects - all from within their Salesforce.com application.

The company also uses Brainshark to deliver on-demand training and tutorials to current customers and for new employee orientation.

Welton Street Investments
Welton Street Investments, one of the nation's first real estate securities broker/dealers and the distributor of Life Income Funds of America (LIFA), uses Brainshark to scale the reach of their marketing and selling.

Brainshark has become an integral part of how Welton Street delivers training and marketing messages about its core offerings. Welton Street's business development directors and LIFA wholesalers use Brainshark-powered presentations to reach hundreds and thousands of registered reps and financial advisors, providing sales training and product education that enable them to engage in more advanced sales discussions with interested, qualified audiences.

"Brainshark makes it easier for us to engage with our prospects and customers. By delivering presentations on demand we've been able to eliminate about 75% of the ad-hoc live demonstrations that marketing used to perform each week, saving us nearly a day a week in staff time. Prospects enjoy the convenience, and sales reps increase efficiency by tracking information to focus follow up efforts on the most interested prospects."

"Using Brainshark, we created free virtualization best practice videos, which we coined "Virtual Vignettes", to demonstrate the value, installation and ease of use of Virtual Iron. But there's another very significant, benefit to the Vignettes - cost! We save money and time by not traveling to each prospect to talk and show Virtual Iron, our customers save money by rapidly maximizing their ROI, and, we minimize support costs by having self-reliant, successful customers."

"Brainshark allows us to reach more registered reps and financial advisors with training and product information in ways that would simply not be possible to accomplish in person. Program Includes License Discount and Quarterly Grant; 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games Will Train More Than 5,000 Volunteers Via Brainshark as First Grant Recipient

Waltham, MA - October 29, 2008

  • Brainshark, Inc. today announced the launch of the Brainshark Non-Profit Program, providing license discounts and quarterly grants to non-profit organizations and educational institutions.
  • The program enables non-profits to achieve their organizational goals and save time and money using Brainshark on-demand presentations to reach important constituencies such as members, volunteers, and supporters.
  • The 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games is the first grant recipient under this new program. In preparation for the World Winter Games in February, the Games Organizing Committee (GOC) is using Brainshark to train thousands of volunteers online, on demand; and saving weeks of training time, cost, and travel for event organizers and more than 5,000 volunteers.
  • Brainshark also announced that it is a Salesforce.com Power of Us Partner, joining a network of technology providers committed to helping organizations contribute to the communities in which they live.
About the Non-Profit Program
  • Non-profits can benefit from using Brainshark to raise awareness, deliver fundraising campaigns, recruit and train volunteers, and inform constituencies with timely updates. The need for many non-profits to reach people outside of typical working hours - such as during evenings and weekends - makes Brainshark's on-demand presentation format a compelling and convenient way to communicate.
  • The program has 2 components: a discount program and a grant program. Brainshark will offer the Standard Edition of its Software-as-a-Service platform at a 40% discount for eligible non-profit organizations. The grant program awards a 1-year license to one non-profit each quarter.
  • Eligible non-profits include registered 501(c)(3) organizations (or equivalent outside the U.S.). It does not include organizations providing patient care, health related services, or financial services. Other restrictions apply, and details can be found on the Brainshark web site.
2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games Saves Time and Money with Brainshark
  • Brainshark is enabling the World Winter Games to transform its traditional classroom-based volunteer training to online delivery, saving time and money for all participants.
  • Using Brainshark, World Winter Games organizers saved over 1 month of logistical planning, and training time for 20 trainers who would have delivered training over 12 weeks, 6 days a week, with 4 sessions per day. It also will save over 5,000 volunteers the need to travel to regional offices for training.
  • Already more than 3,000 volunteers have completed online training, including many international volunteers.
  • The World Winter Games also plans to use Brainshark to train local lodging facilities that will host the World Winter Games athletes and attendees; and for outreach to supporters.

Quotes:
"Recruiting and training volunteers can be one of the most time-intensive aspects of our preparation for the World Winter Games, but for this years' event we've streamlined the process with help of Brainshark. We've already saved hundreds of hours of training and as well as travel time and cost for thousands of volunteers and our own staff by delivering training entirely online, on demand."

"In challenging economic times, it's even more critical for non-profits get their message out effectively. Individual donations may be down, volunteerism may suffer, corporations have less to give, and recent mergers mean there are fewer corporate sponsors. Non-profits need to work smarter to get better results, and make it easy and compelling for constituents to experience and respond to their message. I'm pleased to announce this new program to make our solutions even more accessible for the non-profit community, and thrilled to announce the Special Olympics as our first non-profit grant recipient."
